Dear friends of Gundua Foundation
The main focus for 2025 has been the continuous implementation of the rain water harvesting program – MyTank Project – a development partnership between Gundua Foundation, SIDA and the Swedish Embassy in Kenya, to secure water supply and improve livelihood for the most vulnerable within Meru County. It has been amazing to follow the progress and how the installments, collecting rainwater in a large water tank through a gutter system while also providing avocado plants, have completely changed the life situation for the beneficiaries.

As of the end of 2025, we have installed 250 complete water tank solutions, and the demand for support continues to grow. A successful finalization of the pilot program in 2026 will give us a solid base to scale up from. The impact is immense, and we hope to support many more, both in the nearby communities, and to expand into other geographic areas. A scale- up initiative has the potential to attract additional financial support from different sources, and hopefully, we can combine both institutional, corporate and philanthropic donors to improve life to many beneficiaries for years to come.

Another highlight of 2025 was the visit of distinguished guests from Sweden. In March, the Swedish King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia came to visit the Gundua Schools and the water tank project. A big moment for the Gundua Foundation and a wonderful and unexpected break for everyone at the Gundua schools, when the Royals came by to inspect the compound and greet the staff and students.

During 2025, thanks to generous donations, we have continued to improve and develop the Gundua schools in various ways:
Girl’s Dormitory: We now have 112 students enrolled and their results are excellent. There is a
strong demand from parents to admit their daughters to the dormitory in the coming year.
Gundua Primary classroom: We have expanded with an extra classroom to cater for more
students with complete furniture and other equipment.
Teachers’ accommodation: A new house for the headmaster has been completed during the year.
Teachers’ room: The old teacher’s room has been renovated and expanded to better support the teachers.
Amphitheater: An outdoor amphitheater is being constructed where students can enjoy plays
and other activities.
Solar Water Heating system: We have installed a complete solar water system to minimize the
use of firewood to heat up water and utilize the African sunshine in a better way.
Science Laboratory: A new laboratory for the Gundua Secondary is being constructed, merging
the two old labs into one large complete science laboratory.
Basketball court: The basketball court is being renovated and is soon in top condition again.
Scholarships: 11 scholarships were awarded to our top-performing students, both at the
secondary and university levels. In addition, nine girls are supported with tuition fees for the
Girls Dormitory and 15 students are supported at Gundua Secondary School.
Education is a powerful catalyst for prosperity, and your continued support is more important than ever. Your gift or donation can help in purchasing additional books for the school library, pay tuition fees for students from needy families or improve learning facilities at Gundua schools.
